IOC has decided that they would produce hydrogen production units as it will be the fuel of the future. To do that they would start with the project of Gujarat refinery to produce 99.9999% pure hydrogen. It was expected that at least 15 buses will run in the year 2021 which are fuel cell-powered. IOC has decided to set up a plant of 200-400 tons per day capacity. It is reported that through 2030 the demand for hydrogen will grow at a moderate rate and will be used in industries, transport, and many other industries and the cost will decrease by 30% by then. The production cost of green hydrogen will be €1 to €1.5/kg in China, the US, Russia, Africa, and a few other countries and €2/kg in Japan, Europe, or Korea by 2050.

The Conversion Process of Air to Hydrogen (Generation of Green Hydrogen)- 1st Time in Gujarat

The generator provided by Airox works on a Bipolar pressurized water electrolysis-based system. Each of the electrolyzers is designed for an extra capacity of 10%. The main component of the generator is electrolyzed where water is decomposed into hydrogen and oxygen.

Two cells whereby oxygen is generated on anode and hydrogen is generated on the cathode. Electrolyze is filled with electrolyte mixed with DM water, along with a transformer which is used to change high AC voltage to low AC voltage through rectification by the rectifier.

The positive pole is connected with the anode of the electrolyzer, the cathode of the electrolyzer is connected to the negative pole. Once the DC current is passed, the electrolyte is being circulated and the hydrogen and oxygen generated are sent hydrogen and oxygen separators.

Teleoperators are separated with electrolytes due to gravity and electrolytes come down. The electrolyte at bottom of the separators by gravity comes back and is pumped back to separators filtering and cooling.

While the hydrogen gas is generated and collected for further use, the oxygen generated can also be collected for separate use or vented as per need. This hydrogen generated from electrolysis is 99.99% pure.

The hydrogen plant is designed for a pressure of a minimum of 10 barges to a maximum of 30 barges. In case higher pressure is required, an oil-free diaphragm-type hydrogen booster can be provided.
